TJ's Gym Weekly News 07/06/2018
We hope you all had a fabulous 4th of July! It was great to see so many TJ's members out watching the Larkspur/Corte Madera parade. We had a blast, and Pete hung in there, despite being slightly overwhelmed. Continued thanks, appreciation, and big love goes out to everyone supporting Juggling for Jude.
Message from TJ:
You and Boogie.
This week, the Golden State Warriors pulled off an amazing feat of personnel change by letting Javale Mcgee leave for the Lakers.
Why would they let Javale go to a team in their own division, especially a team that had just signed the best player in the league in Lebron James? Free agency isn't over yet, and the Lakers still have time to stockpile a better roster around Lebron. What gives?
The Warriors made this move, because they got a phone call from Demarcus Cousins, a troubled All-Star who is recovering from a horrible Achilles tear he suffered at the end of last season. “Boogie,” as he is known, has fought with rivals, his own teammates, and even his own coaches. Last year he was picked up by the Pelicans, dropped 50 pounds and helped them make the playoffs while picking up an All-Star nod along the way. Everyone in the league knows his upside but....? Boom! All of a sudden it's announced that he got signed by the Warriors. Nobody saw this coming. Nobody saw this huge win for the Dubs. Lakers fans were crushed, as were others around the league. How did great (Warriors) just get impossibly great (Warriors plus Boogie)?
Cousins has had some attitude issues, but he's still an All-Star. He won't be available to play until January, but he also came cheap, because he wanted a one-year deal. His goal will surely be to help Golden State win a championship and then sign a long-term contract next year with a team that will make sure his great grandkids will be driving Lambo's and cleaning their teeth with gold-plated toothpicks. And remember, he called THEM. Nobody else wanted him. Why? Maybe his attitude, maybe his injury, probably a combination of both.
Let's not be fooled, though, into thinking that Boogie's decision to call the Warriors happened overnight. The morning after that Achilles surgery, I'll bet Boogie and his team sat down and started putting the plan into play. That was MONTHS before the deal was done.
How the hell does this relate to you?
The Warriors saw how all of the different parts fell into place for them. Timing, profit vs. loss, research etc.
I believe that personal success requires a bunch of factors in order to fall into place. Mindset, timing, belief, and support. Sometimes things don't make sense on the surface. Once you start digging in, things make all the sense in the world. We had our biggest growth as a business during the 2008 recession. Folks decided to take stock in themselves and invest in their future instead of a trip to Provence.
I'm going to be asking all of you to come with me on a journey starting on Labor Day. The goal is to become the best you possible by Thanksgiving. I've done the research, and the timing is right. The players are right. The plan is right. All it takes is belief and a positive mindset. Our "season" will start and the grind begins. It's long and will have its ups and downs, but if you're working on setting your mindset now, we can't lose.
Do me a favor and enjoy your summer and your families. There is a plan being formulated for you, and you should start telling yourself that you'll be ready for day one when the time comes.
Boogie is eating right, lifting weights, riding the bike, being positive, and creating connections with his soon-to-be teammates. It's all part of the Championship Mindset.
I want you on the team.
