Marcus Filly - Owner, Mill Valley
Marcus is a Bay Area native and has spent the better part
of his 25 years in Marin County. Growing up in Marin,
Marcus played soccer, baseball, and golf and had the
pleasure of competing as a Division I athlete at the
University of California Berkeley as a member of the Men's
Soccer Team. While at Cal, Marcus pursued a degree in
Molecular and Cell Biology with an emphasis on Human
Physiology and Nutrition. Collegiate athletics exposed
Marcus to Olympic Weightlifting, as well as speed and
agility work that he had never before incorporated into his
training. Marcus's study of the physiology of exercise and
human metabolism and nutrition, combined with the
rigorous training his sport demanded, gave him an
appreciation for how science, sound training, and good
nutrition can benefit every athlete.
Marcus went on to complete a year of graduate work at the Ohio State University School of Medicine. Since college,
Marcus has held a firm belief that through human movement, quality nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices, we have an
incredible capacity to heal ourselves, remain healthy, and to be happy and vibrant beings. What began as an interest in
improving his own athletic performance has morphed into a way of life and a tool to bring others closer to their health and
performance goals.
Introduced to Crossfit in 2007, Marcus has embraced the program wholeheartedly. Crossfit's sound scientific approach
to improving human performance and health has fully captured his interest, as has the broad, inclusive aspects of the
program. Marcus continues to be a student of the CrossFit methodology, while simultaneously pursuing how to best
deliver the information to each individual he coaches.
He is thrilled to have partnered with Allison and TJ Belger in TJ's Gym Mill Valley, where he will be able to share his
passion for CrossFit in his home town.
